01 · START

Before you begin

You'll need a Framer account and one of our templates duplicated into it. North Light is a good place to start. The steps are written for first-timers and skip anything you don't need on day one.

Pick your AI setup

You can edit with Framer's built-in agent or connect the AI tool you already pay for. The results are the same; the difference is cost and setup time.

02 · BUILD

Give the AI context

The more the AI knows about your business, the less it guesses. Send these two prompts first and tell it not to edit anything yet.

STEP 1 · HOUSE RULES

Rules keep the design, copy and images consistent from page to page.

HOUSE RULES PROMPT
Read these rules before we start. Don't change anything yet.

DESIGN
Work out the system this template is built on: type scale, spacing, grid, colour roles, buttons, links and how sections are put together. Anything new you build should follow the same system and the same container widths.

COPY
Match the length of the template's existing text. Headlines stay headline-length, buttons stay short. New sections should match similar existing ones.

IMAGES
Use the files I upload where their names fit. If nothing fits, pick a suitable photo from Unsplash.

STEP 2 · YOUR BRIEF

Describe the business, the look you want and how you sound. Attach any PDFs, brand guides or decks you already have.

EXAMPLE BRIEF
Here's my business. Don't change anything yet.

THE BUSINESS
Fieldwork is a two-person product studio in Lisbon. We design and build apps for early-stage health startups.

LOOK AND FEEL
Calm and precise. Lots of space, one accent colour, no decoration for its own sake.

COLOURS
Off-white background, charcoal text, a muted green for links and buttons only.

TYPE
A clean sans for everything, slightly larger than the template's default.

VOICE
Plain and direct. Short sentences. No buzzwords.

First pass in one prompt

Ask for a full restyle before touching details. You'll see the whole site in your brand at once, which makes the next edits easier to decide.

FIRST-PASS PROMPT
Using my brief and the house rules, turn this template into my site. Apply my colours and type, rewrite the copy in my voice and replace the images. Keep the existing page structure for now.

Attach your logo and any photos to this message.

Refine section by section

Now work through the site one section at a time. Small, specific requests get the best results. A few to start from:

ADD A SECTIONAdd a testimonials section below "How we work". Three quotes in a row, same container width, on a slightly darker background.
CHANGE A LAYOUTTurn the services list on the homepage into a two-by-two grid with a short line under each title.
WRITE FROM YOUR STORYHere's how we started: [paste your story]. Use it to rewrite the About page and the homepage intro.
FILL THE CMSHere are our services: [paste list]. Create a CMS item and page for each, matching the length of the sample entries.
START A BLOGBased on what you know about us, draft five blog posts our customers would actually search for. Keep them natural to read.

03 · PUBLISH

Pre-launch checklist

Tick these off before you hit Publish.

Pre-launch checklist

When it's all ticked, publish. Framer puts the site on a free .framer.app address you can share for feedback.

Connect your domain

Choose a plan. Our templates work on every Framer hosting plan. Compare them under Settings → Plans.

Add the domain. Go to Settings → Domains and follow the prompts. First time? Framer has a step-by-step article.

04 · AFTER LAUNCH

Track visitors

Framer Analytics is built in. Open the Analytics tab to see visits, session length and bounce rate.

Google Analytics works too. Paste your measurement ID into the Google Analytics field in Settings.

Check SEO and AEO

Run your URL through a couple of these. Scores vary between tools, so fix the issues that show up in more than one.

Keep it fast

Test your main pages on PageSpeed Insights after launch and after big changes. Fix the high-impact items first.

Resize images before uploading, cut animations and scripts you don't need, and retest. If a page slows down, remove whatever you added last.
